We are using 4.4,  I just took the current git source from kernel.org and
copied it over the top of my source and built it.

There is also a small change needed in usbnet.c IIRC to do with the rest of
the MC7455.

Not sure how you will go with 3.8,  but the qmi_wwan.c driver has changed a
great deal over the years so depending on your circumstances it may be
possible.
