Dear all,

I would like to follow up on the GSoC student funding for LGM. We had
two students who managed to join LGM - Fedor Morozov (OpenCV) and
Sarup Banskota (GlitterGallery). Unfortunately many students could not
come for some reasons and others had to cancel. Therefore we did not
use the full funding of 4000 USD for 8 GSoC students. We also see that
some Libre Graphics projects have very few student applications for
GSoC or did not get accepted for GSoC.

We had a workshop with former GSoC students and mentors at LGM
yesterday and discussed reasons for this and ideas for the future. If
you are interested in the outcome, please talk to some of the
participants (e.g. Susan, Tavmjong, Fedor, Sarup etc.).

Fedor also agreed to help spread the word and talk to his friends and
community in Russia to come to future LGMs. He will also be a
core-contact for the community and Google to bring GSoC students to
future to LGM.

Regarding the financial transactions, I have not received the funding
from Google yet, but I have a PO (and I have paid the students
upfront). As I wrote before LGM, we should only get the money for
actual students participating and should return any left-over money
(as this was the funding purpose). If there are any changes to this
e.g. from Google's side, the money will of course go to the community.

I have all the invoices of the students, PO of Google and transaction
documents, which I will hand to the financial team for transparency
and archiving until Saturday evening (April 5). If anyone has
questions, this is your best point of contact then.

Thank you,

Mario
