We met yesterday to discuss several matters, in particular, the process
towards accepting the 2021 hosting proposal and feedback from this year's
local organizers.
Some present wanted to create more rules for local hosts to achieve various
aims such as setting a good example with respect to use of open-source
workflows. Others were reticent about additional impositions upon people
already giving such a large gift to the organization. We resolved to
discuss this further.
On the topic of local host feedback, the biggest issue for this year's
hosts was the lack of clarity on the delineation between their
responsibilities and those of the global organization, particularly as
regarded the video recording.
The take-away from both topics was the need to revive and to update
existing documentation from past global organizers as posted here
<https://libregraphicsmeeting.org/lgm/public-documentation/> and to have a
discussion about what are reasonable things to desire and to require from
those generously offering to host the event. The first step in this process
is for people to comment on the existing document, to propose changes, and
possibly to define some provisions, old or new, as mandates. I will start a
new thread for this in a few weeks after people have had a chance to stew
on the matter.
