I agree that a matrix room would be more appropriate for the new 
generation. Still, if it could be bridged to #lgm on libera.chat, for 
old-timers who still prefer IRC for <reasons>, that would be awesome (as 
Farid said, we have such bridge to link KDE matrix rooms to IRC chans, 
and it works really well ; not without occasional hiccups, but still 
much better than no bridge at all).
