I'm inclined to agree. From a user's perspective, there appears to be something
determining the "style" of comments (or else they wouldn't change based on the
content of the document). Not being able to control that "style" (or whatever
it is in the code) feels like a missing feature. 

Alternatively, just make all comments Helvetica 10 and leave it at that. But
having only *some* formatting that is determined by *something*, including a
one-time-only global change, is a maddening UX. 

Again, I don't know the code. Just speaking as a user.
