Thanks I checked that, iirc. also corrected it, but it did not further
influence the situation. However in the meantime there was a new release of
LibO.

And things seems to be better with =app-office/libreoffice-5.4.0.3, compiled
with gtk -gtk3. I no longer have the menu highlighting (focus lost) issues and
scrolling over pages seems a lot better, too. (even during 80-100% CPU
compilation load on all cores).
HW accel. in the menu is back as an option, all checkboxes can be set / unset.

It might be a bit early to judge but I guess I could close that bug.
