Advantages:
1) User have the ability to disable the compression at insert time (users arent
prompted everytime time they press Ctrl+S or click the save button in the
toolbar)
2) Smaller inserted images saves memory and also results in a more responsive
UI (the UI becomes very sluggish when large images are present in a document -
e.g bug 78529)

As the optimization happens once the image is inserted, you should notice that
the image doesnt look as shape as you remember it to be. Also you still have
the image you inserted, so you can always replace the inserted image with the
original image and then disable compression. As mentioned above, users dont
encounter a dialog when they save, unless its a new document, so users would
never see the option to enable/disable compression at save time.

LibreOffice doesnt have any image editing capabilities, so i'm not sure what is
being said here. The only available functions that alters the pixels in an
image are the image filter functions and with optimizations only happening with
large images, no low resolutions images will be produced by the optimization
routine.
