I drag and drop files to insert, so I'm one of the users affected by this
change. In this case, we should not silently resize or recompress images until

* The user has explicitly asked for it with a manual compress
* We have notified the user with a popup or overlay
* Or the user saves the document. 

For non-professionals, resizing and recompressing high DPI images automatically
as long as it's not done without the user's knowledge is a good idea.  My
concern has always been that we must take care to not do this without the
user’s knowledge. This is only fair to the users because it is what they
expect. At least with all the software I’m familiar with, destructive edits
always occur at save time or when explicitly requested.
