As the pdf files produced by LO 5.4 do not have this problem, something about
the pdf generation in LO 6.0 must have changed, in this case (as far as people
with laser printers are concerned) for the worse.

Of course, if the new pdf generator produces "correct" files it would be
necessary to report the bug somewhere else (CUPS?).

However, maybe it would be possible for someone who knows his/her way around
pdf to see what has changed from LO 5.4 to LO 6.0 as far as the lines are
concerned – I'm afraid I don't have this knowledge.
