Hi JBF,
thx for asking. 

I think it's a LO thingy, because when copying from MS Word it works as
intended :-)

Additional findings:
- it's not working either when pasting into Word 2010, Dreamweaver, Google Docs
- strangely some images are copied when pasting into Wordpad
