Ok yes, thanks, pressing F2 does what I want.

I do note that in OS X Impress a single click currently does nothing, and so
could be assigned to give the same effect as F2. (By the way, I can't see how
to activate rotate on single click on OSX).
I do see that that this may be somewhat inconsistent with its function in Draw,
although Impress is where this single click to edit UI would be of most
benefit, I think.
