Correct, I do use kubuntu. 
I have been using the .debs all the while, because I want to be up to date.
With the kubuntu-packages I get older versions only. 

In any case, this explains the breakage that others might also run into. 

I remember some difficulties in former days, when I was told that bugs in PPAs
would be considered 'irrelevant'. I should instead contact the distributor.
Since then I rather use official packages.
