I don't use gedit, but I do regularly use another two GTK+3 based text editors:

Geany -- https://geany.org/

Bluefish -- http://bluefish.openoffice.nl/index.html

The Bluefish GUI resmbles LO very close;y.

There are no problems with either of these editors.
