Indeed, the slideshow blackness has now been addressed (bug #135094) and
the original issue (white slides in the slide pane) still is there, so two
different code paths.

Maybe it's the same trigger in that working on bug#135094 Miklos found a
0cm x 0cm image in the sample slide deck that triggered the blackness in
presentation mode.

Hopefully a good hint for someone looking into the blank preview issue?
