Tried on Linux with 44max and 43max repos, but can't really make any sense out
of it. Your "second route" does not go for me like you say in step 8.
Steps from comment 4 don't have a sane "good" state. The older behaviour is
that ctrl-x, ctrl-v throws the images out of the document canvas.
