Dieter, thank you for chiming in.

I already added my suggestion to topic 125268. I will start a new bug report as
soon as I successfully installed LibreOffice 6.4.2 . That however, is where I
find a speed-bump.

I'm running Debian 10 and here's what I tried:

I first tried to install the latest version from the Debian Software Catalog.
(If you're not familiar with Debian, that compares to the App Sore on an
iPhone.) Then I get version 6.1.5-3 and that's not what you asked for.

Then I went to "www.libreoffice.org/download/download" and I downloaded
"LibreOffice_6.4.2_Linux_x86-64_rpm.tar.gz".

First I choose to right-click and I selected:
"Open With -> Preferences -> Software"
The Software Catalog opens and it shows a message on top of the window:
   "Failed to install: not supported"

Next I right-clicked and choose:
"Open With -> Preferences -> Software & Updates"
Then I get the message:
"There are no sources to install from.
    The file 'LibreOffice_6.4.2_Linux_x86-64_rpm.tar.gz'
does not contain any valid software sources"

No problem, I right-clicked and this time I selected
"Open With -> System Tools -> GDebi Package Installer"
The Package Installer starts and gives me message
"'LibreOffice_6.4.2_Linux_x86-64_rpm.tar.gz' is not a Debian package.
The MIME type of this file is 'application/x-tar'
and can not be installed on this system"

I'm not giving up. Now I choose to right-click and select
"Open With -> Preferences -> Apper".
Mmmm ... that does nothing at all.

Okay, time to unpack myself and see if that goes better.

After unpacking I had folder "LibreOffice_6.4.2.2._Linux_x86-64_rpm". In there
I found file "install". I double-clicked it, but nothing seemed to happen.

Then I right-clicked and selected:
"Open With -> System Tools -> GDebi Package Installer"
No luck.

Now I open a terminal box and I give the command:
   $ ./install . libreoffice64
That's not the solution either.

I went back to "www.libreoffice.org/download/download" and I also found
"LibreOffice_6.4.2_Linux_x86-64_deb.tar.gz", which I downloaded. I repeated
most of the steps that I took before, with similar results.

Resuming, is there someone who can give me a hint? :)

I think I'll start a separate topic. Please consider this post a FYI.

I have set the bug's status to 'RESOLVED/MOVED'.
