I don't think this is a bug. The ABC extended layout is meant to be used to
type more accented characters. E.g., when you then press alt+k it's waiting on
the next character to write e.g., the Scandinavian å

You need to press space to dismiss that and only get the degree sign. This is
standard behavior on macOS and happens with e.g., the grave character as well

You can now also try to upgrade to the latest version (6.4.3) as bug 100706 has
been fixed!
