Not that the comparison to PowerPoint is helpful, but what you describe sounds
very exceptional. Out of your descriptions, this one conveys something
understandable: "select the Text Box tool and sometimes it's so slow that it
doesn't let you draw out a box or if it does, the box disappears later" (the
other descriptions are not useful as you don't include a time measurement).

Please understand that this behaviour is not normal and not expected as some
sort of performance baseline of the application.

Please copy and paste here the contents of your Help - About. This allows us to
know more about your system.

Set to NEEDINFO.
Change back to UNCONFIRMED after you have provided the information.
