There's advanced way of using autofilter that I don't see explained or linked
if using help with F1.
Per https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=119949#c21:
Mark the area to which the filter should be applied. Menu Data > Define Range.
Enter Name, Add, OK.
Later, in case not already marked, go to Menu Data > Select Range.
After the area is marked, enable Autofilter by menu Data > Autofilter.

Define Range has it's own help (via F1)
