Hi Regina, all!

I'm sure you don't share these concerns - because you are truly a power
user. I still remember your use cases when working on the printer
dialog :-)

The discussion is about sensible defaults for the majority of users. And
those users don't know about, e.g.:
      * double clicking a passively looking number field
      * right-clicking a number field (what about Mac?)
      * understanding the options via text (the context menu hides the
        icons)
      * different standard behavior in one software package (sometimes
you have the toolbar icon, sometimes not) (*)

So, I agree that some of the functionality is there - but only few
people will be aware of that. It counts what is visible.

(*) by the way, Math doesn't feature the Zoom Slider

To me, it sounds better to fix the Zoom toolbar instead - since the Zoom
toolbar has been a pretty desired feature that time.

Well, some guys within the Design team already started to ideate how an
improved status bar may look like. That apart - at the moment,
functionality that belongs together, "Zoom", is simply spread among the
screen ... and there is no good reason for that (at least in my POV).

Cheers,
Christoph
