In enterprises environments, custom database queries in ERP systems
costs a fortune to get (e.g. Accenture man/hour price list) and are
almost never done timely. Managers use just 2 tools: Spreadsheets and
Presentations. The first to get data to report, the second, to make his
personal show for the boss and peers.

So managers use spreadsheets from whatever query they get from IT and
shuffles it for the show. That means almost always large CSV files
(often hideen behind a .xls extension).

Also, direct database connection is a privilege very few people have in
enterprises.
