--- Comment #23 from Heiko Tietze <heiko.tietze at documentfoundation.org> ---
You better describe the use case than a particular implementation. Suggestions
are very welcome but please let us consider the general need for a feature,
whether to expand and generalize the request, or to recommend implementing as
macro in case it applies to a very limited user group.

Let's summarize a bit:
* Your use case is to write a menu card every day with dishes in 18pt and bold,
ingredients in 12pt and nutrition facts in italic and grey font color.
* You ask for a function that copies the formatting of a paragraph and suggest
to do this via the pilcrow symbol (¶).

Let's start from the end: Showing the non-printable characters as a
prerequisite to do something with the formatting sounds wrong and not
intuitive. The *NIX example in c20 has no formatting, but anyway we have to
consider users on every platform typically not tech-savvy. So the better
comparison is with MS Word or other office suites.

You can select the pilcrow by increasing the selection until the beginning of
the next paragraph (as shown in c12). If you allow to select the pilcrow only
it would be unclear what exactly is to be copied. MS Word is an example here:
you can select the pilcrow but changing attributes (font size, color) has no
effect (neither copy/paste). I understand this as a bug.

Plus, you can format the whole paragraph with styles as well as phrases with
character styles. And of course apply direct formatting to both. What
attributes should be copied in any case?

The mentioned clone formatting function takes this into account with
accelerator keys (with/without ctrl, see [1]) but has its limitations. An
alternative for your use case might be to copy the whole paragraph and to just
overwrite the content. Or use the supposed workflow with templates and styles
[2].

Or have I mistaken your use case?

PS: Meanwhile the ticket was resolved WF. I agree if the assumption is correct.
