Mass email is usually send to all recipients in BCC and not one by one. But you
loose the personalization, of course.

I could imagine that provider use an increasing period like 10 seconds after
the first 20 messages, but 1 minutes after 40, and 1 hour after 60 etc. just to
block this potential spamming. So the suggested option is becoming complex.
