This does not match my understanding as a list being an attribute of the
paragraph (and consequently I don't expect the item to move). But you are the
expert...

Do you agree with the more subtle proposal of a checkbox "[x] Show label" under
the list menu? On by default, off when backspace was pressed - or this item is
unchecked.
