I think a simplified UI is very positive, I just don't think this is what this
particular request is about. The Tabbed compact UI in LibreOffice is closer to
the web and MS Teams implementation of Microsoft Office 365 UI.
As an example, in Word in Teams and MSO365 Online the home tab has no styles
options in the Home tab, only options for direct formatting. I have attached an
ODF document with the layout for both MS Teams and MSO365 for Word for all of
the tabs in Word. It is worth to compare this to the Tabbed Compact UI we
currently have.
I would think a redesign of the Tabbed compact interface would be much closer
to this design as it is "simplified" from the more complicated standard version
of Word/Excel etc. and is in keeping with what the original reporter posted
(certainly from his attached document).
I would suggest that if you want a very simplified UI then a new one is created
with a name that does not reference "Tabs" at all as Tabbed compact is
logically related to the standard Tabbed UI.
If there is a new simplified UI required then perhaps you could call it
"Essential" or "Minimal" or some other relevant description that emphasizes the
function it intends to accomplish? Calling it Tabbed Compact and having no
"tabs" would just cause confusion.
