Well, the change in 3.4.0 was made by design. There are more changes 
that visible on the screenshot (PDF) from comment #1

But indeed, you may call it a regression if you think it is a mistake to 
omit the page titles in that place.

I'm also still interested in the pointers and ideas of others, as
