Sounds like LibreOffice would be an ideal tool for that; you can do a
command line conversion with --convert-to - run soffice --help to see
some examples.

There are always plenty of bugs :-) This is a developers list - where
you can expect code pointers to help hack on and fix such bugs, and
review / merging of any patches you've come up with.

If the bug doesn't say anyone is working on it - it's a good sign that
they are not. However - unless you yourself want to work on it - this is
not a great forum to discuss bugs in - go to the discuss list for that.
If you are a non-developer and need bugs fixing to your timeline it is
best to contract support for that from one of the many companies
providing those services around LibreOffice :-) That way you can help
the developer : bug imbalance for the project !
