there is a good reason why there isn't something like this on master, 
the code around this area has changed and this patch isn't doesn't work 
as expected with the changed code

well it would be *really* useful to have the logs associated with the 
unit-test failure, then at least I could judge whether the patch really 
needs reverting or it is the unit test needs to be 'tweaked' a little. 
Naturally the test passes here for me
