What version of gstreamer are you running?  Do you have the vaapidownload
element?  I have it in gstreamer-vaapi 0.5.7 built against gstreamer 0.10.

gst-launch filesrc location=BBB_HD.mp4 ! qtdemux ! vaapidecode !
vaapidownload ! ffmpegcolorspace ! ximagesink
