By the way:
After reverting the relevant commit, I still get some problems building:
make dies with an error about "no rule to make
src/gallium/winsys/radeon/drm/libradeonwinsys.a"; the workaround is:
make -C src/gallium/winsys/radeon/drm libradeonwinsys.a
make

This results in a complete build.
