It seems unlikely that it is, and that's why I've asked for those tests. 
Removing the actual application and the old libstdc++ from the equation (by
using the apitrace with force indirect-rendering) will confirm whether or not
this is a legit Xserver (or Mesa driver) bug or a system configuration issue.
