This is such a good point, thanks. I'm mildly annoyed I didn't think of it.

It probably renders my entire "make things neat" plan really rather
unnecessary because I doubt I'll ever be happy with 115kbps (or whatever
the UART can cope with) if the modem gets a "good" link.
