Indeed, though as you probably have noticed, the mpris currently does
not include an API for managing captions and languages (yet?)
Jean-Paul Saman[0] did some work on an elementary streams API at some
point, though it never got included in the spec

The current way of doing things around here is to discuss changes first
on the mailing list, and release when consensus is reached on a set of
features. (Alex Merry[1] and I are working on a version 2.3, though work
on my end has kind of stalled because I have been very busy lately with
other things)
The source XML docs and the build system are in a git repository hosted
at freedesktop[2], patches are welcome :)
