As always with unreleased software, the best is to try the latest
development code. You need a 2.6.37-rc kernel for that.

I would suggest the out-of-tree build option described in
http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/InstallDRM

and then use the x11-overlay git ebuilds (version 9999) for
libdrm and xf86-video-nouveau.

That is what I do with Gentoo.
