Consider updating your packages, as the nouveau userspace has been reworked
greatly with the libdrm rewrite

Check for the following packages (or greater)
* xf86-video-nouveau 1.0.1
* libdrm 2.4.33
* nouveau-dri 8.1 (mesa) - note: there is no official release yet, although
using mesa 8.0 may cause other issues (check with your distro)

If you're still having similar lock-ups attach dmesg and Xorg.0.log as bare
minimum, as advised by Marcin
