I can't quite tell what you're saying, but a pastebin of dmesg and
Xorg log will surely reveal what is going on.

xf86-video-nouveau only works with the nouveau kms module, and will
refuse to load if the device it's given doesn't support the various
nouveau-specific ioctls.
