It's a community-driven effort, to promote true meritocratic
development.  Right now Novell provides a bunch of paid developers to
work on ooo-build full-time (myself included), but the intention is to
keep it truly community-driven, and stay true to the true open-source
development philosophy.

But we are not hostile to the upstream developers.  We do coordinate
with them at many levels.
