Hi Kevin,

Yes, some TVs want to do overscan on input signals which is really annoying. 
One TV in particular I remember would overscan a 1920x1080 signal which to me
made no sense at all.  So I was able to "defeat" the overscan by using a custom
resolution of 1920x1079

You might be able to find a universal remote that sets the aspect ratio, the
logitech harmony has a huge database.  Or buy a replacement remote on ebay
(it's nice to have the exact remote)  Sometimes the cost on ebay is high
though.

On this particular TV, the top getting chopped off isn't helped by changing the
aspect ratio as it goes from top chopped off narrow to top chopped off wide 8-)
