Unfortunately mplayer people doesn't like VLD XvMC much. It sort of 
ended up wrong from the beginning, mostly because a lot of people 
thought we hacked the API (which is questionable) instead of extending 
it (which it allows for), and probably also some bad design decisions 
from my side.

Anyway, I think the only way to get VLD XvMC in is if a lot of people 
ask for it on the mplayer development list, or ask your favourite distro 
to include Ivor's mplayer patch.
