 Additional information:

 Same effect when firefox shows a picture which is too large for the window
 and so been reduced in size by the browser. Normally a looking glass
 appears when the mouse is moved over the picture to indicate that a click
 will show the original size. with the bin-package for dapper the mouse
 pointer just disappears when moved over the picture.
