 Played around a little bit more with it and found that there are some
 mouse-themes in kde which cause the mouse pointer to disappear completely
 others just show more situations where it disappears like mouse-over at
 kde-start-menu button...

 No change reducing color depth in xorg.conf to 16 or changing framebuffer
 size in bios from 16 to 64.
