I've tried mp2player 1.2.3 (from sourceforge)
and I have not seen any artefacts in the videos above.
BTW, mp2player does not show the first 16 frames of any
video.

But in 2 videos below both mplayer and mp2player do show
artefacts:
        http://rapidshare.de/files/13766742/856x768.mpg.html
        http://rapidshare.de/files/13767005/c1_1.mpg.html
Unfortunately, all these artefacts are green and don't look
like pieces of the image.

The 1st video is 856x768, 51 frames, 1.8 Mb.
MPlayer shows a green rectangle at X=480..511, Y=736..751
in frame 25, then a green square at X=480..511, Y=736..767
in frames 26-31.
mp2player shows the same in frames 9-15.

The 2nd video is 1024x768, 101 frames, 3.5 Mb.
MPlayer shows a green square at X=160..175, Y=656..671
in frame 81, then it increases to the left in frames 82-91
(with some green "pixels" added).
mp2player shows the same in frames 65-75.

All the files mentioned are also available at
