[Openchrome-users] Scaler: Interpolation disabled?

Hi all,

I always found that video upscaled to fullscreen (1280x1024) on my EPIA box looked
rather bad, compared to other video cards.

After playing around with some Tap-Filter settings, I found this line in via_swov.c,
current SVN, around line 1792

       /* Temporary fix for 2D bandwidth problem. 2002/08/01*/
       if (pVia->swov.gdwUseExtendedFIFO)
              miniCtl &= ~V1_Y_INTERPOLY;

I found that by disabling this 'temporary fix', my video looks much better.
Without interpolation, you obviously get rather ugly pixelation on upscaled video.

I couldn't find any bandwidth problems:
The box is near its limits (software decoding full D1 MPEG2 Video, with
de-interlacing), and didn't get worse.

Does anybody have the story on this 3.5-year temporary fix? What was it supposed to
fix? What hardware?

BTW, my Hardware is a CLE266 (AX)
