See http://dri.freedesktop.org/wiki/Building under section 2.5: set 
up a fake OpenGL package and select it.

If you then do 'eselect opengl list' you'll get something like this:

Available OpenGL implementations:
  [1]   mesa-cvs *
  [2]   xorg-x11
