Yes - my TV has both DVI, HDMI and VGA inputs... I think what you are saying makes sense to me. It's my first time working with HD and such (my last TV was widescreen CRT), so it's all new to me.
All I wanted was to be able to watch 720p encoded HD movies, using the hardware decoding on the EN12000 board. And if I still can do that even though the output is VGA (or DVI when I find a daughter board), then I guess it's good enough.
I played a little with the TV doing the scaling, and has a working ModeLine already (PowerStrip again), so maybe I'm not that far away from a working setup :-)
