Hi Geoff,
I've set the bios to use VGA+DVI (the EK has no TV output) and the bios and
boot output displays on both devices (or one if only one is connected).

Yeah, I have an LCD connected to the VGA port too as well as the TV connected
via a DVI->HDMI cable. I have just tried setting Active Device to "CRT LCD"
DFP and all the combinations I can think of.
I've been told that LCD and DFP are only for laptop panels so I'm assuming
that if I use CRT then the driver is meant to auto-detect something connected
to the DVI module and use that. Unfortunately I can't seem to get it to work.
