I am positively sure that I at one point had ppracer running with 
K8M800. That doesn't work anymore.
I think there are two possibilities here.

1) A driver bug, (illegal command or alignment) for which the K8M/N800 
is more sensitive than the other chipsets.
2) A memory timing problem that makes the K8M800 lock up when using 
linear mipmap interpolation.
The latter is much more memory intensive than "nearest".

I have tried to avoid using AGP memory for textures -> didn't help.
I have also tried to turn on K8M800 memory prefetching as in VIA's 
driver -> didn't help.

It would be interesting to try VIA's 3D to see if it works.
