Ah, this explains. Unfortunately this was already enabled in the bios, but that mode is broken in the bios for my board (ex10000eg). When I select CRT+TV, it indeed does work (bootup + X on tv and without jumps too!) but my board has no connector for this option (only a DVI connector) so no monitor.
I sent Via a message about this issue, seems like a BIOS bug to me.
