Any help gratefully received.
The problem:
XvMC is loaded and provides acceleration, but fails when using any
resolution higher than 800x600 (in 16 bit colour depth) or 640x480 (32
bits).
(II) CHROME(0): [XvMC] Registering chromeXvMC.
(II) CHROME(0): [XvMC] Initialized XvMC extension.
This is using the latest svn trunk + mplayer patch.
mplayer is launched using:
mplayer -fs -ao null -vo xvmc,xv -vc ffmpeg12mc, /path/to/file.mpg
The ram (64M set in bios) is detected correctly by the system:
* By the kernel / framebuffer driver if one is loaded, ie:
[ 0.373173] viafb: framebuffer size = 64 Mb
* By the X server:
(==) CHROME(0): Will try to allocate 32768 kB of AGP memory.
(II) CHROME(0): [drm] Using 56355552 bytes for DRM memory heap.
Tried tweaking:
* Bios settings (aperture, video memory, PnP)
* command line (noapic, acpi, ...)
* all xorg.conf options (XAA vs EXA, dma, dri,...)
* various framebuffer modes (disabled, vesa, viafb, vt8623, uvesafb,..)
Suspicions:
* in X log:
(EE) CHROME(0): [Xv] Port 0: Bandwidth is insufficient. Check bios
memory settings.
(there are no settings in the bios)
* in mplayer stderr:
X11 error: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)?,?% 1 0
There is one case of memory detection failing with the vt8623fb module:
[ 0.364823] vt8623fb 0000:01:00.0: memory size detection failed (1
40), suppose 16 MB
[ 0.473315] Console: switching to colour frame buffer device 80x30
[ 0.477132] fb0: VIA VT8623 on 0000:01:00.0, 16 MB RAM
