Still didn't manage to fix this ...

I installed the tool read-edid, then (under time pressure) had to gave 
up and settled at 1680x1050 io 1920x1200, although this generates some 
flicker.

Now I have a Samsung 26" TV-set; the best resolution acc. to the 
manufacturer is 1360x768. I have exactly the same problem: the picture 
is displaced to the right by a small offset of maybe 100 pix, and there 
is black vertical bar; at the right side a small strip is missing.

My Monitor-section (as generated with read-edid) looks like this, which 
seems to be appropriate acc. to googling:

How can I center the picture? Perhaps I can tweak one of the parameters?

Or could there be a problem with the Openchrome driver or CN700 chip set?
